Children and Youth

Today, more than 50 percent of the world’s population is under the age of 25. OMF International believes in investing in the formative years of the young (under 18 years-old) in our mission to evangelise East Asia’s unreached millions. We serve children and youths in churches, in boarding homes and schools, in marginalised communities and more. Our ministries include evangelistic outreach through creative ways such as music, sports and art to social development programs for at-risk children and youths, teaching Third Culture Kids of missionaries and serving in local public schools. Due to the range of ministries serving children and youths, we need workers with different skills. For example, a trained professional could reach working class youths in Taiwan or the urban poor in Thailand by teaching them a skill, while a certified counselor could serve in a Japanese outreach to socially reclusive high-schoolers or marginalized children amongst the poor in the Philippines. Educators and special-needs specialists can also be placed in learning institutions such as boarding schools for missionary kids or centers for marginalized children with special-needs (eg autism). There are also short-term programs where one can simply avail oneself to help in giving care to children and engaging them in activities to free their parents for conferences and training. Yet, more than seeking skilled workers, we want servants of the Gospel who will love the young and long to see them come to know and follow Jesus. We are looking for workers who: • Are committed Christians looking to serve God. • Are patient, flexible, approachable and able to communicate clearly. • Have a genuine love for children and a desire to see them have a living relationship with Christ. • Have previous experience working with children (as a nanny, teacher, children’s church leader, etc), although this is not compulsory. • Have previous cross-cultural experience would be beneficial but is not necessary. • Are able to communicate in English. Fluency in other languages is an asset. Long-termers must be willing to learn the local language, understand and appreciate the local culture. • Some formal Bible training. Certain countries require missionaries to spend one to two years in Christian ministry or bible school. • Are in good health and physically active. • Are above age 18. • Are willing to apply through their local OMF centers, including completion of application forms (including medical and Third Culture Kid worker forms) and undergoing interviews by OMF personnel. If you are coming to serve long-term, the first 1-2 years of your ministry will spent in full-time language, culture and worldview study. Upon completion of the language and culture program, you will begin transit to a ministry location and adjust to your new ministry context. If you have the desire to serve East Asian children and youths of up to 18 years-old, contact us to explore opportunities.
