The Aomori Christian Center (ACC) runs and hosts programs for people of all ages, but our greatest focus is on children, teenagers and young adults in Aomori Prefecture. Most believers in Aomori are first generation Christians and struggle with discipling their own children. Consequently, the average age of church members has been steadily rising, and many churches have even given up on having Sunday school. It is our goal to come alongside them and help them to pass the faith on to following generations.
Helping Aomori’s churches to raise up and nurture the next generation to follow Jesus should not be done at the expense of the nurture and discipleship needed by the children of those who minister. By sharing responsibility for meeting the English language educational needs of staff children, serving as a tutor will give ACC’s long term staff the time and peace of mind needed to develop new ministry programs for strengthening churches in Aomori. As ministry assistant, there will also be opportunities to minister to people through direct involvement in ACC’s programs.
The Aomori Christian Center is located in the foothills of the Hakkoda mountain range and is a place of extraordinary beauty in all seasons. In summer you can hike the mountain trails of Mount Hakkoda and the Oirase Gorge or enjoy the sandy beaches of Mutsu Bay. By some standards Aomori is ranked the snowiest city on earth and ACC is just a short walk away from Moya Hills ski resort and only a 20 minute drive from the white powder slopes of Mount Hakkoda. While ACC itself is a place of wooded seclusion and peaceful repose, it is within the city limits of Aomori, a city of over 200,000 with several colleges and universities.
