Doctor or experienced nurse needed to serve OMF missionaries in Japan by providing medical advice and providing whole person member care
The OMF Japan Field has around 150 members and 85 children from 15 different countries. The field vision is by God’s grace to see a vibrant church impacting every community in Japan. Japanese people are the second largest unreached people group and our growing team is passionate to share the Good News of Jesus with them. The Field Medical Advisor (FMA) supports missionaries and their families in Japan by providing a medical and member care advisory service. The Field Medical Advisor provides an internal occupational health service to OMF members in Japan. This includes medical screening of applicants, advice to members and regular face to face medical reviews as well as guidance to field leaders. The role is a crucial part of our team that aims to help members stay healthy and serve as effectively as possible. There are also opportunities to be involved in ministry amongst Japanese people, including church and student work, depending on language ability. Our FMA is usually based in Sapporo, the main city in the northern island of Hokkaido, in order to be able to give support to our new workers at our Language & Culture Center there.
* Provide health advice to OMF members serving in Japan and maintain members’ medical records * Communicate on specific medical issues with other health care professionals as needed. * Communicate with field and home leadership in matters related to the health of members and their fitness for service. This includes risk assessment and recommendations that may affect designation or continued service on the field. * Assess medical needs and fitness to serve for new applicants to OMF Japan. * Perform a two-yearly medical examination for all members and their children. (This is an opportunity for an in-depth discussion of matters of concern to the member, including emotional, psychological, and spiritual matters, not just physical issues.) This will involve travel to the greater Tokyo area, and northern Honshu approximately twice / year. * Work under the leadership of the International Medical Advisor in Singapore and be part of the OMF-wide Medical Advisory Service. Given the National Health Insurance scheme in Japan and the availability of specialists in every major medical field, the FMA does not usually provide direct care for members, instead referring them for evaluation or treatment as needed. As these member-care duties do not constitute a full-time role, the FMA is free to pursue other ministries as agreed by field leadership, based on the individual's gifts and interests and the vision of OMF in Japan.
