Missionary internship with OMF Taiwan for 1-2 years.
Taiwan has many working class communities with no effective gospel witness. Working class people are cut off from most existing middle class churches by lifestyle, values and worldview. OMF is seeking to communicate the gospel in ways that help working class people know that Christ's love is for them too. Missionary interns can serve for 1-2 years on one of the OMF teams seeking to share the gospel with unreached working class children, youth, families, or marginalised people. Interns recieve supervision and on-the-job training from experienced missionaries as they participate in a ministry team. They can bring fresh energy and ideas, while also learning from others. Interns will live in an apartment in the neighborhood where they are serving, usually in an urban environment. Taiwan is wealthy and advanced, so the standard of living is relatively high. Communciations and transportation are excellent. The culture, language, food and values of the people are primarily Chinese.
Interns will begin with up to 8 months part time Mandarin study while engaging in some weekly ministry activity, they are then placed in one of our ministry teams under the leadership and care of an experienced missionary. Ministry responsibilities will be assigned according to interest, language ability and the needs of the team. The specific responsibilities will depend upon the ministry placement. In most cases the ministry will be focused on developing relationships for evangelism or discipleship rather than leading formal Christian activities such as Bible studies or church meetings.
* Young people who have a burden for mission and are seeking the Lord's guidance. * Some previous ministry experience. * Openness to consider God's call to long-term mission. * No formal qualificatiosn are required. * A willingness to learn, be stretched and try new things. * Flexibility, open to new ideas and able to function well in an unstructured situation with a lot of freedom.
* Need to adjust to a busy, crowded, and often noisy environment. Life in Taiwan is often exciting but also exhausting. * WIlling to serve in a team comprising a range of ages and cultural backgrounds. * Oral methods of communciation (e.g. Bible storying, testimonies, music, drama) are most effective in evangelism and discipleship. A willingness to learn these ways of communicating the gospel is essential. * Taiwanese people are deeply religious. Spiritual attack and demonic activity are not uncommon. Spiritual maturity is needed to deal with these situations.
Taiwan is a wealthy country and is wide open to Christian activities and to missionary work.
