In recent years a growing number of Vietnamese have moved to Taiwan to work in factories. In 2020, they numbered over two hundred thousand. Over recent years there has been a growing number of Vietnamese, in 2020 over two hundred thousand, moving to work in Taiwan in factories. The majority are men. These workers are easy to contact and have many practical needs. There is a strategic opportunity to reach this large group that God has brought to Taiwan. In addition, many Vietnamese women have married local Taiwanese men.

Job Description

There is currently an open door to this large number of Vietnamese in Taiwan. Workers are needed to take hold of this opportunity while it exists. The ministry is at a pioneering stage so there is a great degree of flexibility for it to be developed according to the gifts and creativity of the individual. OMF is committed to reaching diasporic communities with the gospel and preparing them to return to their home country. Missionaries will live in apartments in the neighbourhood where they are serving, mostly in urban environments. Taiwan is wealthy and advanced, so the standard of living is relatively high. Communications and transportation are excellent.

Responsibilities

- Making contact with Vietnamese factory workers - Sharing your faith - One-to-one or small group discipleship of believers - Preparing believers to return to Vietnam and helping link them with support back home -Working alongside local churches and the Taiwan Industrial Evangelical Fellowship -Oral methods of communication (e.g. Bible storying, testimonies, music, drama) are most effective in evangelism and discipleship. A willingness to learn these ways of communicating the gospel is essential.

Qualifications

* Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Vietnamese * Good level of English in order to operate well in an international team * A passion to share the gospel * Some formal Bible training is necessary. For non-Taiwanese, the government also requires incoming workers to have recently spent one to two years in ministry. * Must possess creativity and initiative, and a willingness to try out new models of evangelism. * Must be flexible - we are looking for people who are able to function well in an unstructured situation with a lot of freedom.

Living Situation

* A good level of Mandarin is needed in order to live comfortably in Taiwan, so non-Mandarin speakers will need to learn some Mandarin (1-2 years). *If you are not already fluent in Vietnamese, you would need to be willing to learn this and be willing to gain experience of living in Vietnamese culture. This could involve going to live in Vietnam for at least two years. * Need to adjust to a busy, crowded, and often noisy environment. Life in Taiwan is often exciting but also exhausting.
