Over the last few years, a large number of Indonesians have moved to Taiwan for work. Reach out to them and disciple them while encouraging churches in Taiwan and individuals to be involved as well.
Indonesian people are on the move, presenting wonderful opportunities for them to know Christ. While living and working in Taiwan, Indonesians are open to new relationships and ideas. Away from family and community they have a freedom to consider Jesus and explore the gospel although their time to do so may be limited. Many are lonely and isolated. Most Indonesians in Taiwan eventually return to Indonesia. We pray that they may come to Christ, grow as His disciples and feel equipped to become disciple-makers themselves, contributing to the church in Indonesia and beyond. We are looking for people with a heart for evangelism and discipleship who are able to share the vision to reach out to Indonesian people in their midst with the Christians and churches of Taiwan. They will need to have Mandarin and understanding of the culture in Taiwan, and the skills to mobilise for outreach and model it. They will need to encourage and equip, investing in the lives of potential co-workers in Taiwan and Indonesian people living there. This is a ministry which needs someone with excellent relational and cross-cultural skills as well as the ability to take initiative.
As a Returnee Focus worker, you could be involved in: - Leading Bible studies - Leading small groups - One on one relationship building - Organising outreach events - Setting up returnee groups to prepare them for their return home and model Christian community in their home country - Showing hospitality - Offering practical help in accessing resources - Helping with adjusting to life in Indonesia - Making occasional trips to visit Returnees - Networking, evangelism and discipleship in the form of offering training for groups/ churches/ organizations to equip them to reach out to Indonesian people around them. This may include: - Supporting and equipping local Christians in their own outreach to Indonesians - Directing local believers to good, relevant literature - Offering advice - Helping in their relationships with Indonesians - perhaps with communication in the mother tongue where necessary
- Mandarin language and cultural understanding, or a willingness to learn. - Indonesian language and cultural understanding or a willingness to learn these. - Ability to function in English - Good people skills and communication skills - Ability to share the gospel, teach the Bible, disciple new believers - Experience in mentoring or discipling - An understanding of returnee challenges - Pastoral gifts and the gift of hospitality - Experience in working collaboratively with a variety of churches and mission organizations would be helpful. - Experience in training others would be desirable - Ability to work cooperatively with other missionaries, other mission organizations and with local ethnic churches. You will need perseverance and flexibility. You may have a constantly changing group to whom you are reaching out (This is due to the pressured environment that many of the Indonesians you are reaching out to are operating in). We are looking for individuals or couples with a pioneering spirit to be able to both mobilise and equip local Christians for this ministry and to reach out to and disciple individuals, starting a new work as little currently exists.
If you already speak Mandarin but not Indonesian, you must be willing to live in Indonesia for perhaps two years. If you already speak Indonesian but not Mandarin, you must be willing to learn Mandarin for at least two years. If you are already proficient in Mandarin and Indonesian but would be relocating to be based in Taiwan then you may find yourself living and working in a third culture and would need time to become adjusted. You must be willing to relocate to Taiwan, and to relate to the leader of Returnee Focus in Taiwan, the OMF Taiwan Homeside and Field. These relationships will be for oversight, encouragement and accountability and may partly be virtual.
Taiwan is a wealthy country and is wide open to Christian activities and to missionary work.
