Job Description

This location has over 40 people groups, and we love them all! We're like a hub to connect workers, volunteers, and local servants with resources, training, and encouragement to increase the spread of the good news throughout. Assuming a flexible heart and passion for discipleship, we find that the arts, English, and various professions can all find a place in God's work here. Universities are looking for English teachers (and sometimes other languages!), and with a university job as a an inroad to the community, you can intentionally build up existing believers, helping them contribute to the multiplication of disciples in their communities. Of course, you can also personally contribute on the ground to the critical roles of spreading seeds, prayer, and mobilizing others. This is all a part of a larger vision for the people of the Mekong region. The Mekong River flows from China through Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Along this river live a great diversity of peoples, cultures, and languages with unique opportunities and challenges and most with very few believers in Jesus Christ. Many of us live in city settings which have most modern comforts and high level convenience of technology, transportation, shopping, parks, and some entertainment. Prior ability in the language or some commitment to learn is essential both to daily life and ministry. Life in smaller cities can feel more isolated and only recommended for people with significant prior overseas experience. This opportunity is focused on serving in a creative access environment that is not open to traditional mission work.

Responsibilities

University classes, lesson planning, grading, administering tests, and all university assigned roles. Language study (relative to prior ability and various situations). Life-on-life relationships with local believers with appropriate curriculum/method-based discipleship. Sharing good news, prayer walking, team meetings and team life.

Qualifications

University-specific requirements (e.g. native to English-speaking country, bachelors degree, TESOL license or two years' teaching experience, etc, but some universities are flexible)

Living Situation

Humility and willingness to learn, submit to team life and decisions, existing ability in the local language or commitment to learn it, experience in making disciples, teaching experience, ability to be creative about community and friendships, adjust lifestyle to what's appropriate for a university teacher.
