Serving TCKs and their families is an important part of keeping our families on the field. You can be involved in this important ministry by teaching English, Math or Science at middle and high school levels.
The Modular Study Group (MSG) is a hybrid education model which combines the best of homeschooling, online school, and traditional school for children of missionaries with limited access to educational resources. MSG encourages MKs from various locations and organizations to be part of a school community, helping families continue to fulfill their calling on the Field. MSG is a schooling model in which Middle and High school students are taught the core subjects of Maths, Science and English through a blend of traditional classroom instruction and home teaching. The students and teachers work through nine modules over the academic year (September to May) during which they meet in Phnom Penh for in-person learning one week each month. Outside of this the students complete planned assignments at home or in local groups and parents fill out their child's curriculum with subjects specific to their unique educational and cultural needs. The Study Group offers courses in the three main college preparatory subjects of Math, Science and English. Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP-Level Calculus Science: General Science, Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP-Level sciences. English: Middle School English 7-8, High School English 9-10, 11-12 During classroom weeks, working hours are fixed (7:30-5:00 for middle school and high school). On non-classroom weeks, working hours are flexible. Teachers should plan to offer students some options for receiving remote help with assignments, either by email or video call. Planning and grading time required varies for different classes.
The teacher is responsible for providing an atmosphere in which students have the opportunity to fulfill their intellectual, psychological and spiritual growth. In order to accomplish this task the teacher must organize and implement an educational program that results in students achieving academic success at their current educational level and prepare them for success in their future academic pursuits. The successful candidate must be able to identify, select and modify instructional resources that meet the needs of the varying backgrounds and learning styles reflected in the student body. Vital to the students' success is the ability to maintain an effective learning environment in the classroom as well as organize and implement lesson plans for the students to follow during their home study time.
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelors or Associates degree in related field. • Have excellent communication and presentation skills. • Possess the ability to create and execute quality lesson plans. • Possess the ability to create quality home study assignments. • Be competent using core computer applications. • Be comfortable in a cross-cultural environment.
The Study Groups are located in Phnom Penh which has good amenities and transport links, with a seasonal climate, good food and easy access to many beautiful locations. You will live in a home or an apartment, either sharing with other cross-cultural workers or living independently. Some local language study is recommended to help with daily living. Some teachers may choose to live in a different city and travel to Phnom Penh for classroom weeks. In these situations, MSG will work with you to find accommodation during classroom weeks.
Cambodia is looking for pioneers and partners to open new avenues for the Gospel, build up the local church, and disciple believers in the workplace.
