More than 3 years, 1 to 3 years

Job Description

The universities have over 30 million students. These students are discovering life away from their parents, preparing for future careers, and discovering the world outside their hometowns. In these large urban centers, the country's brightest students face strong competition to get into universities, and once accepted, begin preparing themselves for influential positions in business and society. They are the country's next generation of leaders, and nearly all of them are required to study English. As a teacher at a university, you will be in a position to not only broaden their opportunities as you teach these students English, but also to live amongst them on a university campus, and touch their lives with love. On the whole, these students are thirsting for input, friendship, and to know that they have value. For some of these students, your life intersecting with theirs may be the first time they have ever come in contact with a Christian; for others, your life displaying Christ's love to them may well be the next in a series of steps God has been using to bring them to faith. You will be working in one of several large urban centers in a Creative Access country, with a population ranging from 5 million to 20 million. The university districts in these large urban centers have an abundance of students who are eager to make new friends, enjoy university life, and explore life's possibilities. The cities themselves are characterized by modern conveniences, public transportation, high-rises, traffic congestion, access to western groceries, (in some instances) air pollution and massive population. Be prepared for chaos, friendly people, delicious street food, and a spiritual thirst and hunger that will lead to boundless opportunities to reach out to the urban billion.

- Fulfilling the university contract requirements (preparing and teaching class (usually 9-14 hours/week), holding office hours, running English corner etc.) - Interact with local teachers in the department - Work closely with other foreign Christian teachers on campus - Working in coordination with the regional team in other student ministries

Qualifications

- Minimum of a university / Bachelor's degree - English teaching qualifications are preferred - Ability to speak some Mandarin is preferred (if you don't have any Mandarin skills, and seek to come long term you may choose to spend the first few years learning language)

Living Situation

- A heart for students - Willingness to work with other believers in reaching out to students, and in some cases, willingness to pioneer on a campus where no existing team may exist, knowing that you'd have the support of and accountablity to a broader team in the same city
