As a professional you have valuable skills that can be used to work in Indonesia and meet the needs of local people. Engineers, project managers, lecturers, tertiary teachers, are all professions which are needed and you can use your skills to serve. You will be a part of a team dedicated to reaching out to people hearing about Jesus for the first time.
- Use your profession to find work. - Contribute to team life. - Learn the local language and culture (we will help with this). - Live in a local community. - Share the good news of Jesus with your colleagues and neighbours - Encourage national believers to share the good news with their neighbors.
- A Bachelors degree in your profession. - A Masters or PhD degree is required for teaching or lecturing. - Specific professional work experience for your specific career. eg: lecturing, project development, teaching, social work, language teaching, health promotion and other. - Ability to learn how to communicate in Bahasa Indonesia, we will help you with this, it may be that you will need to spend a year learning the language.
The weather is hot and humid year round. The people are warm and friendly. Many Indonesians live and work in busy cities. The cities are full of cars, motorbikes, street vendors, and most modern conveniences. People continue to practice their traditions. The existence of the spirit world is assumed. You will find it helpful to adopt a lifestyle that is appropriate to the community you live amongst. This means you will need to dress modestly and be sensitive to the dietary restrictions of your neighbors. Living like this will help you settle quickly into your community and connect with your neighbours.
If God has given you a heart for the peoples of East Asia, you can be part of God's purposes for them in different practical ways, even in your home country.
