Imagine yourself hanging around at a campus while getting to know students and sharing your life with them. You’ll be amazed about the similarities of how you view life and how they view life.
Students on university campuses are more and more open to learning about other cultures and their perspectives. The focus of this placement is highly relational. Relationships often begin through the campus language center, as well as through connecting directly with specific departments in the university based on your background and expertise, as well as that of your teammates. The element of teaching conversational and technical English serves a felt need. The cosmopolitan provincial capital serves as a major hub for education for this large island and for the rest of the Eastern part of Indonesia and therefore strategic in mentoring future leaders. We believe that students will be crucial in bringing change to the communities as they are the leaders of tomorrow and will become influential in all areas of society. The campuses and the rest of this large city have people from many ethnic backgrounds that choose to study here. It's a coastal area with several major universities and many other private universities, with a vibrant student life. Opportunity is available August till December 2026. Length of placement: 1-4 months.
- activities on campus (e.g. going to the college department, be available to lecturers/students in the intern’s specific field of expertise, spend time with students and help them with English) - identify student groups and join their activities (e.g. sports, outings, meals) - build deeper relationships with students to learn about their culture and perspective (through overnights, visits to their home villages, hanging out together etc.) - team fellowship meetings and time with mentor once a week
- student or graduate with bachelor degree in any field - Your specific skills and background (eg sports, music, media, business, leadership training, etc) can be used very effectively to help build bridges with better understand with the university students
- Willing to adjust to an appropriate lifestyle that is common for local students - Fun loving and enjoy spending time with students or young people (among others, visiting students' home villages) - Ability to be flexible and to cope with less structure - Dress modestly - Ability to work in a multi-cultural team, teachable
