Job Description

• After initial language study, work at a primary or secondary school as a full-time English teacher. • Build relationships with students and teachers in the workplace. • Build relationships with neighbors where you live in our focus people group community. The Lord put this people group on our hearts because they did not have the opportunity to know Jesus. • As part of the local team, be involved in sharing the love of Jesus. • Minimum 2 year commitment. If serving less than 3 years candidate would serve as a non-professional teacher assistant instead of an English teacher. Basically, candidate works as a volunteer under a foundation instead of being an employee of a school.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a ministry focus and relational circle centered on our focus people group in the Bangkok, with the understanding that this will provide you opportunities to share the Good News with them. • Spend the first year in full-time language and culture study, followed by part-time language learning while working as an English teacher.

Qualifications

• 4 year bachelor's degree in a non-religious field of study • TESOL or CELTA teaching certificate • Some experience teaching English to non-native speakers • Suitable candidate(s) must be spiritually mature individuals who are teachable and are able to work in a cross-cultural team environment. • Candidate(s) must be aware that they will be immersed into the focus group culture immediately upon arrival. • Suitable candidate(s) must be a native English speaker(s). • Singles and couples can apply.

Living Situation

• Must be in good health and physically active. • Organized but flexible, patient and approachable with a good sense of humour. • Perseverance to learn another language well, and understand the culture. You will generally not be able to communicate meaningfully with local people in English. Language learning can be a long journey, but we are here to support you in this. • Previous cross-cultural experience would be beneficial but is not necessary. • Despite the availability of western life, amenities, and friends in a large urban environment, candidates must be prepared to make a deliberate choice to identify with the focus people group in language, food, clothing, activities, living location and value choices. • Weekly meal with a team family • Previous 1-year interns have established a group of local friends to hang out with when they arrive.
