Taiwan has many working class communities with no effective gospel witness. Working class people are cut off from most existing middle class churches by lifestyle, values and worldview. Even if they are interested in the gospel, many working class people feel too sinful or too stupid to attend existing churches. OMF is seeking to communicate the gospel in ways that help working class people know that Christ's love is for them too. All Missionaries and teams need help with managing finance through the OMF system. This is a key support role for the field communicating between the field and and many different home side finance managers, monitoring the financial needs of members and the flow of finance into individual projects. Individual missionaries and teams are freed for ministry and supported in their needs. Missionaries will live in apartments in the neighborhood where they are serving, which for this role will be Taipei city. Taiwan is wealthy and advanced, so the standard of living is relatively high. Communciations and transportation are excellent. The culture, language, food and values of the people are primarily Chinese.
Manage flow of finances from overseas into Taiwan. Maintain financial records for individual missionaries and projects. Advise the field director on finance related matters. Work independently and occasionally to a strict deadline. Relate to other OMF finance managers in different centers. Attend regular training in OMF financial system. Be the tea, leader for the finance staff that includes the field accountant.
A background in finance and administration is necessary. Specific qualifications are not needed but some experience with accounts and of working in a responsible management role is helpful. OMF will train the worker in the specific skills needed. Some language ability in Mandarin would be a bonus but not essential. Language study would be encouraged to help with daily life. Some Bible college / intercultural studies training would also be desirable but not essential. There will be opportunities for limited involvement in other OMF ministries.
Need to adjust to a busy, crowded, and often noisy environment. Life in Taiwan is often exciting but also exhausting. A willingness to learn Mandarin and also be involved in other ministries would probably make for a more balanced life and longer term of service. If a couple are applying to serve then this job may be split between two people but other ministries would also be possible depending on language ability.
Taiwan is a wealthy country and is wide open to Christian activities and to missionary work.
