Come and serve the student community. Facilitate Bible study groups helping believers build a firm biblical foundation, encouraging and equipping the students to be witnesses for Jesus in their university.
Christian students have great potential to transform the lives of many as they help other students know more about Christ on campus and beyond. Come alongside them to challenge, disciple and encourage them. Help them to grow into their full potential as followers of Jesus, sharing His love with others.
Your first year will be devoted to learning the language and culture. You will be an active member of a local ministry team. You will facilitate small groups and develop personal relationships with students. Teaching and preaching opportunities will be available for those with the corresponding gifting and ministry experience.
A variety of occupations enable foreigners to engage in the student community. For example: - a university lecturer requires a masters degree in the relevant discipline. - a university chaplain requires a bachelors degree in theology. - an English teacher on campus requires a masters in TESOL/TEFL. - a student/researcher may enrol in an Indonesian university. - a senior citizen (55 or over) may apply for a retirement visa.
You will be living in a busy, vibrant city, where housing ranges from simple wooden shacks to massive mansions. While it's a busy place with lots of mopeds and people on the streets, it is also close to rural areas and great scenery. Socially, people are very friendly. Community and family are a very important part of their lives. Festivals and family events are a big part of everyone's lives. Weather, like anywhere in the tropics, can be very hot and humid but the rainy season brings relief for a few months of the year. Cultural sensitivity - there is a need to be culturally sensitive in dress and lifestyle. Schooling - different schooling options are available if you have kids, including International Schools.
If God has given you a heart for the peoples of East Asia, you can be part of God's purposes for them in different practical ways, even in your home country.
