Help make Jesus known by living and working in the community of our beloved people group while serving a Third Culture Kid.
When God calls parents to minister overseas, He calls their children too and they become Third Culture Kids (TCKs). TCKs experience similar joys and challenges wherever they grow up in the world, and in order for a family to be able to stay on the field, ministering to the people group God has called them to, a considerable amount of time, effort and energy needs to be spent on ensuring the TCKs in their family are thriving amidst the particular challenges they face as they grow up overseas. This opportunity is a chance for you to come and serve a family living in Indonesia by helping with the pre-school needs of one or more of their children. You will be one of just a few outsiders living in a large city so be prepared to be noticed! People are friendly and keen that you adopt their ways, enjoy their spicy food and appreciate their culture. Leave your woolly clothes behind, its hot here day and night! Pack your walking shoes for the lush green mountains teeming with exotic wild life and your flip flops for the rivers.
There will be two parts to what you do. - You will help to teach a young English-speaking child in pre-school. - Language and culture study (formally and informally). - Finally, you will have plenty of time to learn the local language, make friends, enjoy the beautiful place we live in, be a representative of Christ among Indonesians and really experience what cross-cultural work is all about.
- Native English speaker. - Tertiary (trade school or college) education or equivalent experience - You do not need experience in teaching. But you do need to have a heart for children! - Experience in cross-cultural relationships would be an asset.
- You will be fairly independent, living in student accommodation or in a shared house. You can come on your own or with a friend. - Willing to adopt local expectations regarding such matters as modest clothing, local food and relationships with those of the opposite sex. - Willing to serve a family working among these people. - This opportunity is for a female homeschool helper but if you are married your husband can come too!
If God has given you a heart for the peoples of East Asia, you can be part of God's purposes for them in different practical ways, even in your home country.
