Has God put the nations on your heart? Is he leading you to learn more and take new steps of faith in your cross-cultural journey? The Train and Go Apprenticeship will challenge you by combining classroom learning with real-time, life-on-life cross-cultural relationships.
The Train and Go Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to impact communities both in the United States and in East Asia. For the first five months you will join our friends at GFM, living incarnationally among refugees and immigrants in Atlanta, Georgia. You will gain valuable experience through classroom training, life-on-life discipleship, and practical cross-cultural service within the context of a close-knit, Christ-centered community. GFM runs two identical training programs per year: January – May and August – December. Then, for the next 5-7 months you will take what you learned and put it into practice overseas. Serving alongside experienced workers you will love and bless people in their own languages and communities.
GFM involves 20 hours in the classroom each week, personal discipleship time with a staff disciple, weekly accountability groups, and 12-15 hours of cross-cultural service each week. In East Asia, apprentices will be involved in language learning, mentoring by veteran cross-cultural workers, and outreach opportunities. Possible activities are wide and varied: Creation care. Sports. Art. Working with youth or college students. Teaching English. And others.
A desire to learn and put learning into practice. A willingness to cross multiple cultures both in the States and overseas. A willingness to take initiative and build cross-cultural relationships outside of planned programs.
GFM: Apprentices will live in community with fellow students in multi-ethnic apartment complexes in Clarkston (Atlanta), Georgia. In Asia: OMF teams often include workers from across the world. We have placements covering the spectrum between urban and rural, hot and cold, conservative and progressive cultures. In all cases we ask team members to be culturally sensitive in dress, lifestyle, and diet. We have placements in Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and various other locations in Southeast Asia.
