Serving alongside Chiayi Christian Hospital to provide care for Elderly and ministering spiritually to local caregivers.
Taiwan population is ageing and the country needs to develop appropriate ways of dealing with this in the context of smaller homes and shrinking family sizes. Chiayi Christian hospital is a large Evangelical Christian hospital aiming to provide elderly care as a witness to the love of Christ. Chiayi is a more rural area with a lower percentage of Christians. OMF seeks creative opportunities to witness for Christ among the Taiwanese working class and Chiayi Hospital is a key local partner in this ministry. Candidates will live in provided accommodation which may involve sharing with local workers or other voluenteers. Taiwan is wealthy and advanced, so the standard of living is relatively high. Communciation and transportation are excellent. The culture, language, food and values of the people are primarily Chinese.
-Serving at various day care and community care bases -Implementing care plans for elders which include activities, lunch assistance, site organization, facility maintenance, art & Craft, games and accompanying the elders -Home Care visitation/spiritual care and holistic care -Staff care and potential faith-based mentorship
Some previous experience of working with elderly or similar voluntary work would be helpful. No formal academic qualifications are required but it is necessary for the applicant have a good level of either Mandarin or Taiwanese (Hokkien) language. It may be possible for this role to be a supervised placement in fulfillment of academic or professional training requirements of the applicant.
