Bringing the true SHALOM to the next generation through a café and living in a share house
Japan is losing the next generation in churches. We are looking and praying for a female worker who is willing to live in the Share House, which also runs a café, located in Sapporo city. The main work will be to help integrate both young female tenants and café customers into the local church community and share the love of Christ. We are focusing on the young generations who are attending college or working in Sapporo. The Share House has 12 rooms which are for females only. Our desire is that the co-living space will be a channel to share the Good News and disciple the next generation for Christ. Concurrently, we hope to reach out to the local community through the café to share the love and peace of Christ. Co-working with our Japanese church members, we are looking forward to having much cross-cultural communication and exchange. We work together as God‘s family in the Share House and café, sharing the wonderful works that the Holy Spirit has guided us to, and witnessing the love of Jesus to those who don’t know Him yet. You will help as part of the team as we seek to establish this new project (opens in April 2025).
We strongly recommend that the associate worker live in the Share House together with residents whom we will try to share Christ with. Besides being involved in some of the church ministries like cell groups or outreach events, the worker is expected to help with the daily operation of the Share House like cooking and cleaning, and assist with running the café. Above all, we expect the worker to show and shine the love of Christ, share the life of Jesus and let His name be known. Teamwork is highly valued in this ministry. Share in the daily operation of the Share House and Café. Co-work with Japanese church staff and missionaries. Share the gospel and disciple young believers whenever opportunities arise. Build relationships in the community to help assimilate contacts into the church community. You will worship at the church running this project. You will be able to join in wider OMF events and fellowship. You will need to study Japanese language and culture alongside your work in the ministry.
Barista Experience of working in a café or living in a share house is preferred but not mandatory Japanese language level JLPT N3 or above A close relationship with Jesus Christ and a heart to make His name known Passion for sharing Christ with the next generation Willingness to meet people and open conversation easily Cultural sensitivity and effective communication in Japanese Loving coffee and foods is an advantage Willingness to serve together as a team under a local Christian leader
The Share House and Café is located in Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido. It is a 2-storey building in a quiet street near a subway station (within 4-minute walking distance). Daily essentials can be purchased in shops which are all within walking distance. Winters are long (late November-March) and cold, with an average snowfall of 4,6 meters. Summers are warm and can be hot for short periods. Spring and autumn are relatively short and pleasant.
Japan needs workers to partner with the Japanese church in the task of sharing the gospel and making disciples.
