Work with two local churches over two weeks to reach local elementary children with English and Bible Stories. The camp’s ministry focus group are the local elementary children and their families. We are hoping to reach them and have them connected to the local churches and hear the gospel. In this way, the Kingdom here in Tianzhong will be furthered and the local churches will be helped.
Our team’s vision is to strengthen the existing churches in Tianzhong. By organising these camps, we will be aiding the two local evangelical churches in Tianzhong Township, getting them connected with local children and their parents. It will set them up to follow up with these families and continue to minister to them.
The team will be responsible to prepare the schedule, lessons, and activities for two five-day, full-day Bible camps meeting at two separate churches. Both camps are for elementary school children and will involve English teaching time and Bible stories. The first camp will serve 80-100 children and the second will minister to 60. There might be some overlap in the students who are attending, so it would be best if the curriculum was not identical during the two weeks. SAWs are responsible to be facilitators of and teachers in the camps, aided by local helpers from the churches.

Tianzhong is a small town in the middle of rice fields in Changhua county. There is a train station and the high-speed rail station in the township limits. One can walk around the city center in an hour or so. Changhua is known by the Taiwanese church to be very “hard ground” for the sowing of the gospel, and this is very evident in Tianzhong, with most people strongly influenced by folk religion. Short termers will be sleeping on mats on the floor at the 2 churches. There will be aircon available but the weather will be hot. Members must have the ability to tolerate the summer heat during camp. It would be nice for at least one person on the team to speak Mandarin Chinese to help with translation. If there is any Taiwanese language ability that would be helpful too. Not everybody needs to speak Chinese, but being able to speak English is a must. SAWs must be prepared to use and teach very basic English. The students might not know much English.
Taiwan is a wealthy country and is wide open to Christian activities and to missionary work.

Residents in rural areas are often trapped in the poverty cycle. They have limited opportunities for education, poor access to healthcare and livelihoods that are often dependent on the harvest of their cash crops.
