Personal Discipleship
Personal Discipleship

Discipleship is the wonderful and challenging ministry of helping other Christians grow in their relationship with God. Young believers are encouraged tremendously by more mature Christians willing to help them understand and apply God’s word. This is especially true in mission situations where a believer may have few Christian friends or relatives. In some contexts, the local church is not established well enough to help young Christians grow and deepen their faith. All OMF International workers look for opportunities to disciple and encourage other believers around them. However, some situations provide special roles focused entirely on this ministry of helping other Christians take the next steps in their spiritual growth. This may be very recent believers, young leaders in a growing church, or other Christians struggling with challenging circumstances. You may have a role focused on a daily and weekly routine of meeting up with individuals and small groups to read and study the bible, share, and pray together. This can be done using a set curriculum or through a more customized approach with each person and/or group. This discipleship work is always done in partnership with the local church where possible and with a vision to equip and encourage the church in helping other Christians to grow. We seek workers who: - Have a pastoral heart and the passion to walk patiently with young believers in their faith journeys. - Are excited about seeing the Holy Spirit at work among God's people. - Are dependent on God through his word and prayer.
- Are walking by faith, humble and willing to learn new things. - Are patient, flexible, creative and able to take initiative - Are lifelong learners willing to grow in engaging the lost with the gospel message
- Can be committed and active members in a multicultural team.
- A desire to help encourage others realize their ministry potential. - Must be committed to learning the national language and studying the culture - If required by the context, have appropriate qualifications of education, expertise and/or experience to help them to seek job opportunities - Have some formal bible and cross-cultural training. Certain countries require missionaries to spend one to two years in Christian ministry. - Have a long-term view of ministry to East Asia through OMF’s 6 Ways To Reach God’s World.
