The objective of supporting, encouraging, equipping OMF personnel in their life and ministry is common to OMF Human Resource (HR) role, but the working out of that role can be quite varied. In some cases the Human Resource role is carried out in the “home country” or sending context. Depending on the size of the OMF center in that country, Human Resource may specialize in critical areas such as helping assisting missionary application and selection process. In most cases, your involvement in a particular role will depend on your own experience and expertise. Sometimes the role overlaps with Finance and Administration areas; for example you may be working with staff and missionary personnel in areas such as health insurance and retirement planning. In some cases our Human Resource team is involved in developing and managing our personnel processes and procedures under OMF local and international leadership. Often Human Resource personnel fulfill their role while serving in a “field” ministry. The HR role may be a full-time role, or a part-time one while serving as part of another ministry team. As is the case in many roles, the exact scope of responsibilities will depend upon training and experience. Sometimes the HR role will require someone with significant cross-cultural life and ministry experience. Our commitment is to support, encourage and develop all OMF personnel, whether missionaries, paid staff or volunteers. At the same time, our HR team members often assist in “member care,” supporting missionaries by providing a range of resources for missionary personnel and children for their nurture and development. This enables them to serve God well and is provided over the course of the missionary life cycle, from recruitment through to positive release into other areas of service or into retirement. You will need to learn the main language of the country in which you serve, both for work effectiveness as well for functioning as a member of a local church or ministry team. The exact language proficiency requirements will vary according to the role. Education and professional training and requirements will also depend on the role envisioned, and in some cases by government visa requirements. In some cases there are roles for workers that can offer for one to three years. Those roles may be focused on specific Human Resource-related projects. There may also be opportunities to serve as part of the International Personnel System team in Singapore and elsewhere, using our Information Technology program to help serve OMF personnel in Human Resources.
