Community Development
Community Development

OMF International is committed to serving the holistic needs of the materially poor through community development work. We want to see the church’s expression of Christ's love through long-term partnerships with local communities and agencies to improve the socio-economic status of unreached peoples. Our mission is to glorify God by serving with excellence and compassion, living a Christian life of integrity, learning from and partnering with local communities with the same vision for justice and compassion, for long-term change and the sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Community development takes place in different contexts across East Asia. In agricultural dependent communities such as the minorities of Thailand, we may work with local farmers towards sustainable farming, be involved in projects to provide clean water or conduct basic disease prevention classes to villagers. In emerging economies, we could partner small enterprises by equipping and empowering them to pursue best practices in their businesses. Or we may set up community centers to provide education, medical care, micro-saving and development programs. In urban cities, it may be counseling and outreach to the marginalized such as the working class or disabled. In post-disaster areas, like Leyte and Samar in the Philippines and Tohuku in Japan, we are committed to providing long-term relief and recovery services alongside spiritual ministry. In some cases, we may also second workers to other partner organizations or government agencies such as local schools or hospitals. No matter which form community development takes, it is our desire not only to improve the lives of communities through development services, but also to build trust and relationships for the end purpose of displaying God’s love and sharing Christ with them. We want our projects to be sustainable long-term as we bring transformational hope to communities so that they may in turn reach out to other communities. We are looking for workers who:
