An OMF International Volunteer is someone who makes a difference for East Asia’s peoples right where they are. While we are always looking for people who can serve cross-culturally, there are critical volunteer roles in your own country that help further the vision of seeing churches started and multiplying in each people group of East Asia. OMF Volunteers further our vision and mission in different ways. For example, you may serve in Mobilization by representing the needs of East Asia and OMF International in settings like a church Sunday School class or missions conference. Some Mobilization volunteers may be part of God’s work through developing and leading prayer groups. Recognizing that involvement in mission is often a long process, some volunteers serve as “coaches” or “mentors,” journeying alongside others who are thinking and praying about their own mission involvement. Other Mobilization volunteers advocate for a specific unreached people group or ministry among East Asia’s peoples. Some volunteers also serve through their Media and Communications expertise and interests. There may also be opportunities in Finance and Personnel. For example there may be opportunities in donation receipting and helping with accounts. Some volunteers serve on “Home Ministry Teams” for OMF workers, ensuring there is good communication between the missionary and sending churches, facilitating prayer meetings and at times, helping to address pastoral care needs. Depending on your location, there may also be opportunities to serve as part of an OMF Diaspora team, reaching out to people from East Asia living in your own country or city. Responsibilities: • An OMF International Volunteer should be growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ. As a child of God, each Volunteer is given the privilege and responsibility of bringing God’s glory to the nations, and we hope each Volunteer derives a personal satisfaction and joy as a result of their Great Commission involvement with OMF International. • We want OMF Volunteers to understand how their ministry connects with OMF’s vision and mission. Whether the role is broad and “high-profile” or very focused and behind-the-scenes, each volunteer is part of a group of men and women committed to seeing God glorified among East Asia’s peoples. • Be active in a local church and be an advocate for missions, helping family and friends understand God’s redemptive plan for the nations as well as ways they could be involved. • Help the Body of Christ in your area understand the needs of East Asia’s peoples. • While it varies in each country, OMF Volunteers often receive training for their specific ministry. We want Volunteers to see this as their ministry as well as OMF’s. Their role is not one of being “just a volunteer.” Rather it’s an important ministry with the intent of bringing glory to God through our service. If you are interested in serving God and the peoples of East Asia through Volunteer service, please respond to one of the opportunities listed.
